A joint security team comprising military personnel, police operatives, Department of State Services (DSS) officials and local vigilantes has apprehended a suspected collaborator of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Anambra State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was arrested at about noon on May 30 during a routine patrol along the Owerre-Ezukala axis in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the patrol was conducted by troops of Sector 5 under Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and local vigilante groups.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly providing information and alerts to suspected IPOB/ESN members regarding the movement of security forces in the area.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to local vigilante operatives for preliminary investigation and further profiling.
Security sources said troops continued to dominate the general area following the arrest to deny criminal elements freedom of action and maintain security within the community.
The sources reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to sustained operations aimed at curbing criminal activities and ensuring peace across Anambra State.
