Army, DSS Nab Suspected Gun Runner, Recover Ammunition in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected gun runner and recovered an arms cache in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

 

This is contained in a statement issued by the Nigerian Army on Thursday. 

 

According to the statement, the operation was conducted around the Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari following credible intelligence. 

 

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib from Belango Village in Karim Lamido LGA, was arrested in connection with an arms trafficking syndicate believed to be operating in the region.

 

Items recovered from the suspect include 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, ₦842,100 in cash, one black Jing Cheng rubber motorcycle, one Redmi Android phone, one itel phone, two silver rings, and a First Bank ATM card.

 

The suspect is currently in custody and has been cooperating with security agencies, offering valuable information to aid ongoing investigations.

 

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift action in apprehending the suspect.

 

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army, in synergy with other security agencies, to rid Taraba State and its environs of criminal elements.

 

Brig.-Gen. Uwa also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance peace and stability in the state.

 

The coordinated operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb arms proliferation and criminality in the North Central and North Eastern zones.
