Armed bandits have attacked Kagoye Village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing one person and rustling an unspecified number of domestic animals.

Sources said the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when a large number of armed assailants, wielding sophisticated weapons, invaded the remote community and opened fire on residents.

According to the sources, troops from a nearby Forward Operating Base (FOB) to the scene.

The troops responded promptly to the report and moved to the affected village.

“Upon arrival, they discovered that one resident had been shot dead during the attack, while the assailants had fled with an unspecified number of livestock,” the source said.

The sources added that the bandits escaped into a nearby forest before the arrival of security personnel.

The body of the deceased was evacuated to the General Hospital, Silame, for autopsy and other necessary procedures.

Efforts had been intensified to track down the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

They added that joint security teams had commenced confidence-building patrols and surveillance operations across the affected area and neighbouring communities to reassure residents and prevent further attacks.

They reaffirmed their commitment to tackling banditry, cattle rustling and other forms of criminality threatening rural communities in Sokoto State.
