CDS tasks troops to crush bandits, restore peace in North-West

The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to intensify operations against bandits and other criminal elements in the North-West.
Oluyede gave the charge during an operational visit to the Headquarters, Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The visit, according to military sources, was aimed at assessing operational readiness, addressing challenges confronting troops and boosting morale in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
Addressing the troops, the CDS commended their resilience, courage and sacrifices in defending the nation, urging them to remain disciplined, professional and relentless in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he said.
He assured the troops of continued support in welfare, training and provision of operational equipment to enhance their effectiveness in the field.
Oluyede also reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to sustaining pressure on criminal groups, noting that efforts were ongoing to improve operational capabilities through enhanced air support and better coordination across theatres.
As part of the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, where he appreciated the state government’s support to military operations.
He also commended residents of the state for their cooperation and called for sustained collaboration, particularly in the area of credible and timely intelligence sharing.
In his remarks, the governor praised the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and continued efforts toward restoring peace in the state and the wider North-West region.
The visit featured an operational briefing, interaction with troops, assessment of deployments and a media engagement session.
