The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects over the alleged assault of a Police Constabulary officer and damage to his mobile phone during an incident in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident followed a complaint by one Qudus Akinwande of Abata Area, Ifo, who reported that he was allegedly assaulted at his residence on August 20, 2026, by an Army officer identified as Chukwuka Dauda.

According to the complaint, the alleged assault followed a dispute over a debt of ₦25,000, during which the Army officer allegedly seized Akinwande’s cooking gas cylinder.

On August 21, Police personnel, including W/Insp. Eno Aladi and Police Constabulary officer Lateef Jimoh, were detailed to invite Dauda for questioning.

The situation reportedly escalated into an argument after the suspect said he would not honour the invitation that day but promised to report the following day.

During the incident, two neighbours, identified as George Jeremiah and Ayinde Ololade, allegedly intervened and assaulted the Police Constabulary officer, inflicting injuries on him.

His iPhone 12 Pro Max was also reportedly damaged during the ensuing confrontation.

Following the incident, Police operatives from the Surveillance and Anti-Robbery teams arrested five suspects at about 10:45 a.m. on August 22.

The suspects were identified as George Jeremiah, Ayinde Ololade, Joy Chukwudi, Paul Matthew and George Stephen.

The suspects are currently assisting investigators as the Police intensify investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault and alleged malicious damage.

The Police Command said the suspects would be arraigned in court under relevant provisions of the law upon completion of investigation.

The incident underscores the need for members of the public to avoid interfering with lawful police duties and to channel grievances through established legal procedures rather than resorting to violence against security personnel.
