Five Killed in Fatal Crash on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

Five people, including the driver, have been killed in a fatal road traffic accident along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in the Mowo area of Lagos State.

The accident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when a Toyota Camry saloon car, with registration number FKJ-630-KS, allegedly lost control while being driven by Opeyemi Taiwo.

According to a security report obtained by Zagazola Makama, the vehicle, which had four other occupants on board, reportedly climbed a road culvert and collided head-on with an oncoming Renault truck with registration number T-28081-LA.

The driver of the truck reportedly fled the scene after the crash and is currently at large.

The driver of the Camry and the four other occupants died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.

Traffic personnel were subsequently deployed to the scene, where photographs were taken and the bodies of the victims evacuated to the Badagry General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The two vehicles involved in the crash were also recovered to the police station for safekeeping and inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).

The police have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and efforts are ongoing to locate the fleeing truck driver.
