The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. B.P. Koughna, has conducted an operational visit to troops in Sokoto State.
Security sources said the visit, which took place on April 1, was aimed at assessing operational readiness and boosting the morale of troops deployed in the area.
The GOC was received at the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Gidan Katta, Illela Local Government Area, by the Commanding Officer of the unit.
He thereafter proceeded to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sauna, where he was briefed by the FOB Commander on ongoing operations and security developments within the area of responsibility.
The visit also took him to the 8 Division Field Surgical Hospital deployed at Luguhuru, as well as the battalion’s mechanical transport yard.
Koughna later visited the FOB at Gwadabawa as part of efforts to appraise operational activities across key locations under the sector.
Sources said the visit was conducted without any incident.
The Nigerian Army has continued to intensify operations across the North-West to tackle banditry and other forms of criminality in the region.
