ISWAP Family Members Surrender to Troops in Borno

Two suspected family members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the surrender occurred at about 8:18 p.m. on Friday when the woman, identified as Mrs. Fatimata Modu, 29, arrived at the location of troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade, accompanied by her two-year-old son, Muhammed Modu.

The sources said the woman and her child, both from Yaganari Village in Bama LGA, voluntarily surrendered to the troops and were immediately taken into custody for profiling and documentation in line with established operational procedures.

Military authorities said preliminary screening and documentation had been completed while further assessments would be carried out by the appropriate agencies.

The latest surrender adds to the growing number of insurgents and their family members who have continued to lay down their arms and embrace non-violent pathways amid sustained military operations across the North-East.

Security sources, however, noted that although the general security situation across the theatre remained relatively calm, it was still unpredictable, with troops maintaining a high level of vigilance and operational readiness. Troops’ morale and fighting efficiency were described as satisfactory.
