Security sources said troops deployed at Anka under 1 Brigade responded to a distress call at about 6:25 p.m. on May 20 after receiving information that terrorists had opened fire on a vehicle at Kofan Shanu area.

The incident reportedly occurred along the Mayanchi-Anka road, about one kilometre from a local vigilante checkpoint in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the state.

Sources disclosed that troops immediately mobilised to the scene to rescue the victims and secure the area.

On arrival, the troops discovered one passenger dead from gunshot wounds, while two other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

During the operation, troops recovered the sum of N850,000 from the scene, which was subsequently handed over to the Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Anka Branch, for further necessary action.

Security sources said efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators of the attack, while troops had intensified patrols and surveillance along vulnerable routes in the area to forestall further incidents.
