The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Maj.-Gen. W.M. Dangana, has visited troops at Ungwan Boka checkpoint in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State following the October 31 attack that killed a soldier.

Security sources said the GOC visited the location at about 9:00 a.m. on November 1, 2026, to assess the circumstances surrounding the attack on the checkpoint by suspected Fulani militia.

During the visit, Dangana reportedly assessed the direction and nature of the attack and directed troops to intensify efforts to track down and neutralise the assailants.

He ordered that no stone be left unturned until the attackers were apprehended or neutralised and the weapons recovered during the incident retrieved.

The GOC also emphasised the need to strengthen force protection measures, particularly at checkpoints and other vulnerable military positions.

He directed that all checkpoints be re-evaluated to identify security gaps, improve troop protection and ensure effective domination of the main supply routes (MSRs).

The visit followed the attack on troops at Sopp checkpoint, Ungwan Boka, on October 31, during which suspected gunmen reportedly killed a soldier and carted away weapons.

The military has continued to sustain operations in the area as efforts intensify to track down the attackers and prevent further assaults on troops and civilians.
