OPWS Troops Destroy Suspected Terrorist Hideout, Recover Dane Gun in Benue

Troops of Sector 1, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have destroyed a suspected terrorist hideout and recovered a Dane gun during a fighting patrol in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation was conducted at about 2 a.m. on August 14, 2026, by troops deployed in the Ukum area.
According to military sources, the troops conducted the patrol towards suspected terrorist locations around Mianaka, Mbayenge and Kado in Ukum LGA.
During the operation, the troops recovered one Dane gun alongside other sundry items found at the location.
The troops subsequently destroyed the suspected terrorist enclave and other associated structures found within the area.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle criminal hideouts and deny armed groups safe havens within communities in Benue State.
The military has continued to intensify patrols and clearance operations across the state as part of efforts to protect residents and restore security in affected areas.
