Police arrest escaped Ilesa prison inmate in Lagos

The Nigerian Police Force in Lagos has arrested a 39-year-old fugitive, Kabiru Oyedun, who was among the inmates that escaped from the Ilesa Correctional Centre in Osun State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended on May 21 at about 5:35 p.m. in the Oshin-Welder area of Ayobo, a suburb of Lagos.
According to a Police sources from Lagos Zone 2 Police Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, the arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public who sighted the suspect and alerted the police.
The sources said “A team of police detectives was swiftly mobilised to the area and successfully apprehended the suspect without incident,” he said.
The sources added that the Lagos State Comptroller of Corrections has been contacted and is expected to take custody of the fugitive for onward transfer to the Osun State Correctional Service for further action.
Oyedun is believed to be one of the inmates who escaped during a recent jailbreak at the Ilesa facility. Details of the jailbreak are still under investigation by relevant authorities.
