Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Rifle in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered a rifle during a joint security operation in Kanke Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources said the suspect, identified as Rowa Usman, was arrested at about 1300 hours on June 21 along Langshi Village in Ampang East District.
The operation was carried out by police operatives in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and local hunters.
According to the police, the suspect, who hails from Gargadi Village in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was intercepted while riding a motorcycle through the area.
During preliminary interrogation, he claimed he was following his cattle from Doka Village in Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State on his way to Bogoro in Bauchi State.
However, a search conducted on the motorcycle led to the recovery of an AK-49 rifle bearing Breech Number 11/6209002 and a magazine.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.
Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
The command added that the security situation across the state remained calm and under control.
