The Katsina State Police Command says it has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims unhurt at Marabar Bangori along the Funtua–Gusau Road.

Sources said that the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Aug. 9.

He said suspected armed bandits laid an ambush and opened fire on a white Golf 3 Wagon with registration number BWR 104 HE, driven by one Sadi Ahmed, 45, and conveying two passengers Ibrahim Umar, 40, also known as Dan’iya, and Babangida Yusuf, 45, all from Yankara town.

According to him, the vehicle was also carrying a load of tomatoes from Funtua to Yankara when the attack occurred.

“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team to the scene. On arrival, the team engaged the hoodlums in a tactical gun duel, forcing them to flee to an unknown destination.

“The victims were rescued without any injuries,” he said.
