Police inspector on special duty commits suicide in Niger

 A Police Inspector has  reportedly took his own life in the early hours of Wednesday while on special duty in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger state

Zagazola Makama learnt from reliable sources that the  incident, occurred at about 1:50 a.m., involving Inspector Bassey Asuquo, with a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, Abia State, deployed to the area for special assignment.

The officer had been reported to be behaving abnormally before the incident.

As a precautionary measure, his Unit Commander reportedly directed that Inspector Asuquo’s rifle be retrieved and kept in the armoury at the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division.

However, further investigation revealed that the deceased officer gained access to a rifle belonging to another officer who was asleep at the time. Asuquo allegedly took the weapon and fatally shot himself in the head.

His remains were deposited at the General Hospital Sarkin-Pawa, while Inspector Titus Bulus has been taken into custody for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation.
