Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have recovered 26 cows stolen by suspected cattle rustlers during an early morning operation in the Ode-Remo axis of the state.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident was reported at about 3:15 a.m. on July 18 after the owner of the cattle, Adewale Ogungbe, alerted the police that unknown armed men had invaded his yard and stolen 26 cows.
The Divisional Police Officer and a patrol team were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they gathered that the suspects had earlier, at about 1:30 a.m., breached part of the perimeter fence, herded the cattle into the bush and fled.
Police, assisted by the cattle rearer, pursued the suspects, forcing them to abandon all the stolen cows in the bush around the Ode-Remo axis before escaping.
All 26 cows were recovered without loss and returned to the owner’s yard. The livestock were subsequently released to the owner after due documentation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
