A suspected terrorist fighter, who claimed to have spent about seven years with a terrorist group, has surrendered to troops of 242 Reconnaissance Battalion in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorist surrendered at about 9:50 a.m. on Oct. 5, 2026, at Charlie 7, Monguno.
The sources said the man claimed to have escaped from a terrorist camp in Tumbuma village, Marte Local Government Area, citing poor feeding conditions and loss of interest in terrorist activities.
During preliminary debriefing, the surrendered fighter allegedly confessed to participating in several attacks on military bases around Ran, Sairam, Wulgo and Marte areas.
The surrendered fighter was subsequently handed over to Sector 3 Military Intelligence Battalion (MIB) for further profiling, debriefing and necessary action.
His surrender is expected to provide security agencies with additional intelligence on terrorist activities, camps and movements within the Lake Chad region.
