President Bola Tinubu has assured members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria that the country will prevail against insecurity, pledging that the sacrifices of troops fighting banditry and terrorism will not be in vain.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president commended officers and men of the military for their courage, professionalism and commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” he said.

Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by troops on the frontlines, noting that many were often separated from their families while confronting terrorists and bandits across different parts of the country.

According to him, the gallant efforts of security forces have continued to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and bandits.

“You have been working diligently to serve the country and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.

The president also assured the armed forces of continued government investment in modern equipment, intelligence and logistics to enhance their operational effectiveness.

Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, expressing optimism that the country was making progress.

“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices, and those of your fellow citizens, are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.

The president also extended his sympathy to the government and people of Borno over recent terrorist attacks in parts of the state.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the president for approving measures aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of the armed forces.

Shaibu said the approvals included an upward review of salaries and allowances for members of the Armed Forces, as well as procurement of equipment and provision of decent accommodation for personnel.

“These laudable measures will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency, and I assure you they are well received by all members of the Armed Forces,” he said.
