Troops arrest 20-year-old over alleged illegal firearm possession in Bassa

Troops of Sector 3, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Suleiman Haruna, over alleged possession of an illegal firearm in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was arrested at about 7:50 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2026, at the Rukuba Road checkpoint following credible information received by the troops.
The sources said Haruna was apprehended for allegedly being in possession of an illegal firearm.
He is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession and determine whether he has links to any criminal group.
Security agencies are expected to sustain intelligence-led operations and checkpoint screening across the area to prevent the movement of illegal arms and identify individuals involved in criminal activities.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to strengthen security and prevent further violence in communities across Plateau State.
