Troops of 177 Guards Battalion, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mararaba Udege, have arrested a suspected child trafficker found in possession of a 10-year-old girl in a commercial vehicle travelling from Suleja to Otukpo.

Zagazola Makama gathered from military sources that the suspect was apprehended at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation.

The suspect reportedly claimed to be a dismissed personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and told the troops that the minor had been handed over to him by her aunt for transportation to Otukpo.

However, during separate questioning, the girl reportedly denied knowing the suspect or the woman he identified as her aunt, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding her movement.

The suspect and the child were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police at Mararaba Udege Division for further investigation and necessary action.
