Troops arrest suspected kidnapper, recover AK-47 rifle in Edo

Troops of 4 Brigade, conducting operations under Operation Whirl Punch and Operation Rescue, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Obaretin community along the Benin–Sapele Road.
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with registration number 6624011, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspect.
Other items recovered include a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody as further investigation continues to establish his possible links to kidnapping activities and other criminal operations in the area.
The arrest forms part of ongoing security operations within the 2 Division area of responsibility aimed at disrupting criminal networks and denying kidnappers freedom of movement.
Security forces are expected to conduct further interrogation and investigation to determine the suspect’s associates and possible operational links.
