A joint security team of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected illegal miner during a raid on an illegal mining camp at Doshi Hill in Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State.

A security source said intelligence reports received on June 14 indicated that suspected illegal miners had established a temporary operational camp at Doshi Hill.

According to the source, a team comprising personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and a representative of the Office of the Security Adviser conducted a raid on the location at about 10:00 a.m.

The source disclosed that the suspects opened fire on the security team upon sighting them and subsequently fled into nearby bushes.

However, one suspect, identified as Adamu Abubakar, 45, from Gunda village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, was apprehended during the operation.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly disclosed that Gunda village serves as an enclave for Boko Haram terrorists.

The suspect and exhibits recovered during the operation were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and necessary action.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat illegal mining and other criminal activities that could provide support for insurgent and criminal networks in the North-East.
