Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dispersed a mob following the burning of some Fulani settlements and the blockage of parts of a road at Ungwan Rijiya in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, when troops of the 11 Forward Emergency Response (FER) unit responded to reports of mob activity in the community.
The troops reportedly encountered a crowd of residents armed with axes, cutlasses and sticks.
A preliminary assessment indicated that the mob had allegedly burnt some Fulani settlements and blocked sections of the road in a reprisal over claims that a Fulani man was involved in kidnapping activities.
The troops subsequently intervened and successfully dispersed the crowd using nonviolent means.
No details were immediately available on casualties, arrests or the extent of damage caused by the burning of the settlements.
The incident draw attention to the risk of reprisal attacks and collective punishment arising from allegations of criminal activity, with security forces intervening to prevent further escalation.
