Troops of Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe (JTF-SS OPDS) have foiled an attempted vandalisation of an oil well-head in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Sources said the incident occurred at about 11:10 p.m. on March 27 when troops of 5 Battalion, stationed at Opokushi Delta Company, responded to intelligence on suspicious activity around Well-head 40.

The source disclosed that on arrival at the scene, troops engaged the suspected vandals, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into nearby areas.

He added that troops subsequently discovered dynamite and other items allegedly intended for use in sabotaging the facility.

According to the source, a bomb disposal team was deployed to the location but was initially unable to safely disconnect the explosive devices without triggering a possible detonation.

The source said efforts were ongoing to safely neutralise and remove the explosives, while troops continued to maintain heightened surveillance within the general area.

He reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to protecting critical national infrastructure and preventing economic sabotage.
