Troops of Sector 3 of Operation Enduring Peace foiled an attempted kidnapping in Dong village, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the troops responded swiftly to a distress call at about 12:20 a.m. on June 7 following reports that unidentified gunmen had attempted to abduct a resident, Mr Moses Isa, from his home.

According to the sources, troops deployed under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) immediately mobilised to the village upon receiving the report.

On arrival at the scene, the troops established contact with the suspected kidnappers, leading to a brief exchange of fire.

“The armed men fled into the surrounding mountainous terrain due to the superior firepower and rapid response of the troops,” the sources said.

The sources added that troops expended eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the encounter.

No casualty was reported and the intended victim was successfully rescued from the attempted abduction.

Following the operation, troops dominated the general area and conducted aggressive patrols to prevent the suspects from regrouping or carrying out further criminal activities.

Security officials said efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

They urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

The incident is the latest in a series of security operations aimed at curbing criminality and enhancing public safety across Plateau State.
