Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with local hunters, have arrested a suspected cattle rustler during an offensive operation conducted in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out on June 4 by troops of the 322 Artillery Regiment and local hunters following intelligence reports on criminal activities within communities and forested areas in the local government area.

The operation targeted Olelo, Ugbovbighan Forest and Ivbiadaobi communities, where security personnel conducted coordinated clearance and search activities aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of operation.

According to the sources, the troops successfully apprehended one suspect during the operation and recovered a mobile phone believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.

Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel reportedly identified the suspect as a cattle rustler involved in livestock theft activities within the area.

Military authorities said the arrest forms part of sustained efforts to combat rural criminality and protect the livelihoods of farmers and livestock owners across the region.

Following initial investigations, the suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

The military reiterated its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to rid communities of criminal elements and enhance security across Edo State and its environs.
