Troops Intercept 52 Cattle After Farmland Destruction in Plateau Community

By Zagazola Makama

Troops of Sector 5 under Operation Enduring Peace have intercepted 52 cattle following reports of farmland destruction in Mai Jakarta Village, Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 after receiving a distress report that farmlands in the community had been damaged.

The sources said the troops, working in conjunction with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), combed the area and intercepted 52 cattle grazing unattended, with no herders found in their vicinity.

The livestock were immediately moved to a secure location pending the identification of their owners and further necessary action by the relevant authorities.

Security sources said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the intercepted cattle were responsible for the destruction of the affected farmlands, while efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend those connected with the incident.

The operation forms part of sustained efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to address recurring farmer-herder disputes and protect farming communities across Plateau State.
