Troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a vehicle loaded with suspected illegally refined petroleum products during an anti-illegal bunkering operation in Rivers State.
Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 11:45 p.m. on April 2 by troops of Headquarters Section 3, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), following credible intelligence on suspected PMS theft activities around the Eleme pipeline opposite the refinery gate area in Okrika Local Government Area.
The sources disclosed that troops moved to the location and, upon sighting them, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
According to the sources, troops recovered one vehicle loaded with suspected illegally sourced Premium Motor Spirit concealed inside three drums and one empty drum, with an estimated capacity of about 900 litres.
The recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible action.
Security authorities said operations against oil theft and related economic sabotage activities are ongoing in the Niger Delta region.
