Troops intervene in Nasarawa communal clash between farmers and herders

Troops of 177 Guards Battalion, deployed at Forward Operating Base Mararaba Udege in Nasarawa State, have intervened in a communal clash between farmers and herders in Udege area of Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on April 2, following a distress call from Ogiri village over a confrontation involving members of the Afo ethnic group in Angwan Dariya and Fulani herders.
The sources explained that troops, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police, and the Vice Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government Area, swiftly moved to the scene.
According to the sources, the joint security team engaged stakeholders on ground and intervened to de-escalate tensions and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
They added that efforts were made to restore calm in the affected community and avert the spread of violence to neighbouring settlements.
Security authorities have continued monitoring the situation to ensure lasting peace in the area.
