Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have launched search-and-rescue operations after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Mussa community in Borno State, forcing pupils writing examinations to flee, with an unspecified number reportedly abducted.

Military sources said the attack occurred at about 8:10 a.m. on Friday when troops of A Company, 115 Task Force Battalion deployed in Mussa came under attack by terrorists.

According to the sources, the incident caused panic among pupils of Mussa Primary School who were sitting for examinations at the time of the attack.

“The students ran in different directions during the exchange of fire between troops and the terrorists. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing pupils, while reports indicate that an unconfirmed number may have been abducted,” the source said.

The military said further details on the incident were still being awaited.

In a related development, troops of 117 Battalion in conjunction with Hybrid Forces were deployed to Kauthama, Babanti and Ngadarma communities in Chibok Local Government Area following the sighting of suspected terrorists in the area late Wednesday night.

The troops were mobilised to deny the insurgents freedom of movement and prevent possible attacks within the affected communities.

However, security sources disclosed that one civilian was killed by the terrorists before the arrival of troops at Kauthama village.

The military said operations were ongoing in the general area to track the fleeing insurgents.
