Troops under ongoing security operations have neutralised a suspected terrorist and destroyed a criminal hideout during a fighting patrol in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Security sources said the operation followed earlier aerial intelligence missions that identified terrorist locations and movements within remote communities.
According to the sources, troops of CSI Battalion III and 223 Battalion conducted a coordinated fighting patrol on March 30, clearing Mairairai, Dan Makarawa, Yar Maitaba and Kaboro villages.
“The troops made contact with the terrorists at Yar Maitaba and Kaboro villages and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to flee,” the source said.
The sources added that one terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, while five motorcycles used by the criminals were destroyed.
They further disclosed that troops demolished a hideout belonging to a notorious kingpin identified as Alhaji Ilu, believed to be a key figure in coordinating criminal activities in the area.
According to the sources, the operation is part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and deny them safe havens across the North-West region.
They said troops have continued to dominate the general area with aggressive patrols to prevent the re-emergence of criminal elements.
