Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a makeshift terrorist camp in Tungan Kudaduku, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing five kidnapped victims during a counter-terrorism operation.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was launched following credible intelligence indicating that a group of armed terrorists riding about 10 motorcycles had been sighted in Kawaye heading towards Tungan Kudaduku.
Acting on the intelligence, troops swiftly mobilised a fighting patrol to intercept the terrorists.
On making contact, the troops engaged the fleeing terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon the area and retreat into the surrounding bush.
A thorough search of the area led to the discovery of the terrorists’ makeshift camp, where five kidnapped victims were found and rescued unharmed.
The rescued victims are currently receiving appropriate care, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
Military authorities said troops have maintained a strong presence in the area to deny the terrorists freedom of movement and prevent them from regrouping.
The operation forms part of the sustained offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring security across Zamfara and other states in the North-West.
