Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have recovered 34 livestock while herder managing the livestock had gone missing in alleged suspicious secret killing in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 3:05 p.m. on May 19 when troops responded to reports of stray cattle grazing in Mbor village.
On arrival at the scene, the troops reportedly recovered 34 cattle found grazing on cultivated farmland without a herder present.
Sources said the intervention followed concerns that the herder managing the livestock had gone missing or was allegedly attacked in secrete assassination by locals during the dispute.
The livestock were immediately moved to a safe location to prevent further destruction of crops and to avoid escalation of tensions within the community.
Security sources said local stakeholders, including community leaders, were engaged to help trace the whereabout of owner and clarify the circumstances surrounding the missing herder.
They added that investigations were ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the herder and ensure accountability for all parties involved.
