By Zagazola Makama
Troops of the 17 Brigade have recovered 56 rustled livestock after engaging suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation followed credible information about a planned attack by a notorious terrorist leader, identified as Idi Abasu Aiki, on communities around Bakori township.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the 17 Brigade Special Forces, in conjunction with other troops deployed in the area, launched aggressive fighting patrols to vulnerable villages on July 14.
At about 11:58 p.m., the troops made contact with the terrorists at Angwan Yan-Kwani village after the criminals opened fire on sighting the patrol.
The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon the rustled livestock and flee into the surrounding bushes.
The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists along their escape route until contact was lost before conducting a thorough exploitation of the area.
During the operation, the troops recovered 56 rustled livestock, comprising four cows and 52 sheep.
There were no casualties among the troops, while the number of casualties inflicted on the fleeing terrorists could not be immediately confirmed.
