Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a follow-up operation on an armed robbery incident in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Security sources said the recovery followed a report received at about 9:30 p.m. on April 6 on armed robbery and theft of a motorcycle along the Dampar–Unguwan Nahuta road.

According to the sources, troops of 93 Battalion deployed at Dampar responded to the report and launched a follow-up operation.

At about 8:30 a.m. on April 7, the troops, in collaboration with local hunters, conducted a patrol to Unguwan Nahuta village, where the prime suspect fled upon sighting the security team.

The troops, however, searched the suspect’s residence and recovered one AK-47 rifle along with nine rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The recovered items are currently in the custody of the troops, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Security sources said the operation underscores ongoing efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and enhance security along key routes.
