Troops of Operation PEACE Enduring Peace (OPEP) have recovered a locally fabricated firearm during a fighting patrol targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 5:00 p.m. on July 18 by troops of Sectors 1 and 3 in the Agingi–Dogon Dutse mountainous area.
The sources said the troops raided a suspected terrorist hideout during the operation, leading to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle and four rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
No suspects were arrested during the operation, as the occupants of the hideout were believed to have fled before the arrival of the troops.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal and terrorist elements safe havens in the rugged terrain of Plateau State, adding that troops will continue sustained patrols and clearance operations across vulnerable communities in the state.
