Troops of the Nigerian Army under 1 Brigade, operating in Zamfara State, have recovered additional weapons and confirmed the deaths of two more notorious bandit leaders Kachallah Rijaji and Kachallah Suza following further exploitation operations at Mai Kwanugga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama gathered from sources that the encounter followed the major offensive carried out by troops of Counter-Terrorism Team 6 (CT 6) on May 1, which led to the killing of several terrorists, including high-profile commanders Auta Jijji, Dankali, and Sagidi.
Military intelligence sources revealed that at about 5:00 a.m. on May 2, troops returned to Mai Kwanugga for follow-up operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal route.
During the operation, troops recovered one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube with serial number 50297 and two RPG bombs recovered from the scene of the confrontation.
Troops have intensified aggressive clearance and combing operations in the general area to ensure no remnants of the terrorists’ equipment or fighters are left behind.
According to the sources, the community also confirmed that two additional bandit commanders Kachallah Rijaji and Kachallah Suza were among those neutralised during the previous day’s firefight.
Both Rijaji and Suza were known for orchestrating multiple violent attacks and kidnappings across parts of Zamfara and neighbouring states, and their elimination marks another major victory for security forces in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign.
The sources said the Nigerian Army high command reaffirmed its commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the North-West and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
