Troops Repel Ambush During Search-and-Rescue Operation in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai under Operation Desert Sanity V have repelled an ambush by suspected terrorists during a search-and-rescue operation in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno.

 

Sources said that  the incident occurred on May 26 during efforts to locate abducted schoolchildren reportedly sighted in Mussa area of Imirchika village in Damboa LGA.

 

According to the sources, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters and local vigilantes, conducted a search of the area but did not find the abductees.

 

It said that while withdrawing from the operation area, the troops came under ambush by an unspecified number of terrorists around Furfura village.

 

The military said two soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter, while casualties on the side of the terrorists could not be immediately confirmed.

 

The troops reportedly recovered 29 Android phones, 29 small phones, eight power banks, one improvised pistol and a motorcycle from the attackers.

 

The sources added that the quick reaction force stabilized the situation, noting that general security across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable.
