Troops under Operation Safe Haven (OPEP) have repelled an attack by bandits and rescued an injured woman along the Hukke–Rewienko road in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on April 12 when troops deployed at Rewienko heard sporadic gunshots in the area.

According to the sources, the troops swiftly moved to the scene and engaged the attackers with return fire, forcing them to flee in disarray.

They added that on arrival, the troops found a woman, identified as Mrs Mary John, with machete injuries.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that suspected fulani bandits had laid an ambush along the road and attacked the victim,” the sources said.

The sources noted that the victim was immediately evacuated to Hukke Health Care Centre for medical attention.

They added that the general security situation in the area remains calm, while troops have sustained patrols to prevent further attacks.
