Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled a coordinated attack by Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) fighters on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Maiyama in Kebbi State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 7, when a large number of terrorists, riding more than 100 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, attempted to overrun the military base.

The attackers were reportedly armed with General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades as they launched the assault on the troops.

The troops, however, held their positions and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray into the surrounding terrain.

Several of the attackers were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

A subsequent exploitation and pursuit operation led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The troops also recovered a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, a quantity of ammunition and Baofeng communication radios reportedly used by the terrorists during the attack.

The general area remains under the control of the troops, while aggressive patrols and dominance operations are ongoing to track the fleeing remnants of the group.

The operation is part of sustained efforts by the security forces to deny armed groups freedom of movement and prevent them from establishing operational footholds in communities across the region.
