Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during a night ambush operation in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the encounter occurred at about 9:35 p.m. on April 19 when an ambush team of 192 Battalion (Mechanised), deployed around Kuranabassa village, made contact with an unspecified number of terrorists advancing from the Mandara Mountains.

The sources said the troops engaged the insurgents with disciplined fire, forcing them to retreat in confusion towards the foothills of the mountains.

No casualty was recorded on the side of the troops, while casualties among the fleeing terrorists could not be immediately ascertained.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, the top cover of an AK-47 rifle, two pairs of slippers, two water bottles and a canvas.

The sources noted that the recovered ammunition appeared to have been refilled, suggesting possible constraints in the terrorists’ access to standard ammunition supplies.
