Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists along the border area of Ogbeese Forest and Owo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, recovering arms and other items in the process.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 1930 hours on May 4 when troops of 32 Brigade deployed at RA Uso responded to a distress call on the movement of suspected terrorists within the area.
The troops reportedly mobilised to the general area, made contact and engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to flee.
Following a further exploitation of the area, troops recovered one Dane gun and one mobile phone belonging to the suspects.
However, during the encounter, one soldier was killed in action while another sustained injuries.
The injured personnel was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Military authorities said troops had since intensified patrols and clearance operations in the area to prevent further infiltration by criminal elements.
They assured residents of continued efforts to sustain security and dominance of the general area.
