Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation Eastern Sanity have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The victims were rescued during an operation conducted on Friday following a distress call reporting the abduction of several residents by suspected kidnappers.
Security sources said the troops swiftly mobilised to the area in collaboration with police operatives, forest guards and members of the neighbourhood watch to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
According to the sources, the joint team advanced to the suspected hideout where the victims were believed to have been taken and commenced aggressive search operations and fighting patrols across the area.
The kidnappers reportedly abandoned their captives and fled upon sighting the approaching troops.
“The criminals were overwhelmed by the rapid response and superior combat readiness of the troops and fled the scene, leaving behind the victims,” the source said.
All the 12 abducted victims were subsequently rescued unharmed during the operation.
Troops also arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping during the exploitation of the area.
The suspects are currently being interrogated to help security agencies track down other members of the gang.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified aggressive patrols and surveillance across the area to ensure public safety.
The security source said the successful rescue operation demonstrated the troops’ sustained operational pressure and commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring public confidence in the region.
