Security personnel under Operation Enduring Peace have rescued an electoral official following an attempted mob action during the announcement of primary election results in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on May 20 in Ganawuri district when tension erupted over the announcement of results from the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary election.
The electoral official, who was presiding over the announcement, was reportedly confronted by agitated individuals, leading to a rapidly escalating situation.
Troops, alongside Keystone security operatives, were immediately deployed to the scene to restore order and prevent further escalation.
On arrival, the security team successfully rescued the official and other delegates, who were subsequently evacuated to a safe location in Riyom town.
Security sources said three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were expended during the operation to disperse the crowd and stabilise the situation.
