Troops of the Nigerian Army have launched a search-and-rescue operation following the kidnapping of commuters by armed men along the Oboile–Eruku road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:50 p.m. on October 29, 2026, when troops of 184 Battalion responded to a reported kidnapping along the route.

The sources said the troops, upon arrival, discovered that the armed men had abducted some commuters and fled into the surrounding forest.

Troops subsequently conducted search-and-rescue operations within the general area in an effort to locate the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

However, no contact was established with the abductors during the initial search.
Efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing gunmen and secure the safe release of the kidnapped commuters under Operation Savannah Shield.
