Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a kidnap victim and recovered arms and ammunition during an operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected bandits around Agera Nagu in Mbagina, Michihe Council Ward.
Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, Force Commander, OPWS, in a statement on Monday, said the troops engaged the bandits in a firefight, forcing them to flee and abandon their victim.
He said the rescued victim, identified as Mr. Teryima Torbee, 43, was unhurt.
According to him, troops also recovered one FN rifle, five magazines and 83 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition during the operation.
“The gallant troops have since restored calm in the area and are maintaining aggressive patrols to dominate the general environment,” Gara said.
He commended the resilience and professionalism of the troops as well as the cooperation of the Civil Protection Guard.
The commander urged residents to continue sharing timely information with security agencies, stressing that synergy remained vital to defeating criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace.
