Troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion have rescued a woman and her daughter after they escaped from a terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State.
The duo were intercepted by the troops at about 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, after escaping from their captors at Huje terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountain area.
According to a security report obtained by Zagazola Makama, the rescued woman is an indigene of Chinene, in Borno State, and was reportedly subjected to a forced child marriage in 2025.
The troops provided immediate protection to the woman and her daughter before subsequently handing them over to authorities at the Pulka Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue highlights the continued humanitarian consequences of terrorism in communities around the Mandara Mountains, where vulnerable civilians have been exposed to abduction, forced displacement and other abuses.
Security forces have continued operations in the area to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement, rescue civilians held in captivity and facilitate the return of displaced persons to safety.
The rescued mother and her daughter are expected to receive necessary humanitarian support and assistance at the IDP camp following their ordeal.
