Troops of 1 Brigade under Operation Hadarin Daji have responded to a series of terrorist attacks across parts of Zamfara State, rescuing victims and recovering property.
Security sources said at about 10:00 a.m. on April 12, troops responded to terrorist activities at Danzamau village in Gummi Local Government Area, where two civilians were abducted while in transit.
According to the sources, the victims’ vehicle was abandoned by the attackers and later recovered by troops and handed over to community authorities.
They added that at about 10:30 a.m. the same day, troops responded to another attack at Tungan Sakki village in Bukuyyum Local Government Area.
“Troops were unable to access the village due to a riverine obstacle; however, available information indicated that nine persons were abducted during the attack,” the sources said.
The sources further disclosed that at about 2:00 a.m. on April 12, terrorists riding on motorcycles attacked Maru town in Maru Local Government Area, killing one civilian and abducting two others before fleeing.
They said troops deployed in Maru, reinforced from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kanoma and supported by local vigilantes, responded promptly but the attackers had escaped.
In a related development, the sources said troops also responded at about 9:30 p.m. on April 12 to a distress call from the NDLEA Area Commander in Gummi over the abduction of three of his personnel at Dalenge village during a covert operation.
They noted that troops swiftly deployed to the area and successfully rescued two of the abducted personnel, who had sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“The injured victims were evacuated for medical attention, while one suspected terrorist was apprehended during the operation,” the sources said.
They reaffirmed that ongoing operations are aimed at tackling banditry and restoring security across affected communities in Zamfara State.
