Troops conducting anti-illegal bunkering operations have uncovered 3,200 litres of illegally refined petroleum products during a raid in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 6:00 p.m. on July 24 by troops of Land Component Sector Force (LCSF) Mobile Strike Teams (MST) 1 and 2, acting on credible intelligence about ongoing illegal bunkering activities.
According to the sources, the troops raided a location along Refinery Road in Eleme, where they discovered approximately 3,200 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products.
The recovered products were handled in accordance with the mandate of Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), which includes the destruction or appropriate disposal of illegally refined petroleum products and facilities used for crude oil theft.
Military sources said the operation forms part of sustained efforts by security forces to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
They reiterated the commitment of Operation DELTA SAFE to protecting Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations against economic saboteurs.
