Two persons have been killed by Fulani bandits in a reprisal attack at Kantoma community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 8:35 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2026, when troops of Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack in the community.
The troops, upon arrival at the scene, discovered the corpses of the two victims, identified as Ibrahim Namchin, a native of Kikyau village, and Kenneth Ishaku, a native of Kantoma.
The assailants had reportedly fled the area before the arrival of the troops.
The troops recovered two empty 7.62mm Special cartridge cases and one motorcycle from the scene.
The bodies of the victims were subsequently handed over to community members for burial, while troops dominated the general area and conducted fighting patrols to prevent further attacks and track possible movements of the assailants.
Security forces have commenced efforts to de-escalate tensions in the community, with an emergency stakeholders’ meeting scheduled at the headquarters of Sector 8 OPEP.
The latest developments highlight the fragile security situation in parts of Mangu, where isolated attacks and subsequent reprisal actions risk triggering a wider cycle of violence between communities.
